I am a leadership coach and a communications strategist who understands that effective leadership and clear communication lead to increased engagement, productivity and innovation. I rely on compassion, humor and direct communication to support my clients in meeting their personal and professional objectives.
I believe that leaders who know themselves and act accordingly—and who empower others to do the same—achieve their goals and live more fulfilling lives. It’s easy to say “be yourself". What does that mean? How do you do it? That’s where coaching comes in. I create a trusted space for leaders to uncover what makes them tick. I help them learn to use their talents to become the leaders they want to be and to live more authentic and purpose-driven lives.
Authenticity is also foundational for my consulting work. As a career communications professional, I have seen firsthand the benefits of working in organizations that articulate and live their values. Effective communication with staff and customers is essential to a successful business. It can also be daunting if you don’t have communications experience. I help business leaders create sustainable communications practices - based on their talents and resources - to build their brands, grow their business and promote their services.
I started DPCC because I realized that, in nearly every job I've had, I was the person people sought out to be a sounding board. Those conversations were among the most rewarding moments of my career. I value connecting with people, and I am energized when they find the answers to their own questions. I enjoy helping people communicate more effectively with the those who matter to them. I am fascinated by leaders who inspire and motivate and am interested in how they think. This intersection of connection, creativity and service led me to coaching and compelled me to start DPCC. Read more about my values.
I have more than two decades of communications experience in corporate, agency, hospitality and nonprofit environments, and I have held several leadership positions. I have worked in internal communications, editorial and design, strategic communications planning and public relations in industries ranging from finance to research. Most recently, I was the Associate Director of Communications at Pew Research Center. For more about me, please see my credentials and follow me on LinkedIn.
I believe in being who I am and honoring others for who they are. Being in alignment with my values makes my life happier and more fulfilling. To me, authenticity means being true to myself, being honest, open-minded and trustworthy. It means being accountable for my actions and being encouraging and enthusiastic supporters of who others want to be.
Growth is at the center of how I spend my time. I think a lot about who I want to be and how to get there. My work supports others in their professional and personal growth and requires a commitment for me to focus on mine. To me, growth is about knowing myself better, expanding my worldview and becoming a more wholehearted person. It’s about enjoying the journey and focusing on the direction I’m going instead of on a fixed destination.
I believe in lifelong learning through education, experience and interactions with others. To me, wisdom is about having perspective, applying what I’ve learned and knowing there is always more to know. It means learning from mistakes, being open to others’ points of view and having a flexible mindset. As the saying goes, “Knowledge is knowing what to say and wisdom is knowing whether or not to say it” (author unknown).
I believe in being kind to myself and to others, as much and as often as possible. Acts of kindness can change the way we see ourselves, others and the world. I want to live in a more compassionate world, so I invest in being caring, respectful and empathetic. Kindness is good for us; it lowers our stress levels, improves mood and helps to build strong relationships.
Research shows connecting with others is essential to a long, happy and healthy life. In addition to those benefits, I value connection because I have experienced the magic that happens when you “click” with someone. I am grateful for the relationships I have that show me the value of vulnerability, communication and humor. Every new person I meet is an opportunity to build upon those values and to expand my worldview.
